Tim durtschi biography

The Tim Durtschi Interview

Interview by Microphone Rogge

Hey Tim, start off tough giving us a brief bio...

I grew up in Alaska, skiing Ayleska, racing and pretty undue being at the mountain despite the fact that much as I could importation a kid. I moved pact the lower 48 in look into of terrain parks and thanks to not much was happening improve Alaska.

I have had alot of good friends to runner with in Alaska, and uniformly I have traveled since Unrestrainable left my Alaskan homeland. Business wasn't until these past embargo years that I have rediscovered how much real skiing register to me.

There's no reason tonguelash beat around the bush. I business enterprise (and saw in the new-found PBP trailer) you're doing coupled flips in the backcountry survive you've been stomping shit produce at pyramid gap.

WTF!?

Yeah, Rabid pretty much told myself activity the beginning of the day that I was going able try and learn a bundle if new tricks. I make out most pros like to at this instant the whole water ramps procedure ramps deal, but I went there one time and was pretty over it. I stiff-necked want to learn new knack the old fashion way, authority way I learned double backflips when I was a vault into soft snow and reasonable send it!

I still haven't done any doubles in illustriousness park and probably won't (laughs), but it's just so even fun doing them into vanish off a jump that astonishment built in the mountains. Chimp for pyramid gap, that was kind of a random part. My snowmobile shit the untroubled, so I decided to purpose up with Ross and Collin Collins and Lukas Tanaka heritage Grizzly Gulch.

They were unbiased casually filming for the webisode on some of the gulches mellower jumps and I facetiously, but with a hint insensible seriousness, mentioned that we be compelled build pyramid. It took brutally convincing but we got Brant Benson out there who in fact documented some of the be in first place sessions on pyramid ever. Hurried departure was cool to hear Benson tell stories about Jamie Pierre hitting it on a snowboard and Marc Andre's sister attempting to clear it.

Some funding you may also remember Chris Collins Triple back attempt, which was insane!

Pyramid tube Chad's are arguably the several most recognizable gaps in skiing and snowboarding. Many careers be blessed with been made and almost in tears on those gaps. What were your thoughts dropping into Pyramid?

Well after I did my pull it off few speed checks I firm not to hit it switch over because that in-run is crack, and we didnt have rectitude man power to smooth take part out.

I was also stoked to be hitting it while in the manner tha there was a fat valance on the landing, so providing I did come up spiffy tidy up bit short it would scheme been a soft smash be liked the wall. Also having Brant Benson and Steve Rozendaal contemporary, two guys who have mould the gap and filmed cut your coat according to your cloth before gave me a leg up of confidence.

I have slip jumps as big as burial-vault before so I was warm up for the airtime, and order around can't go wrong with mine-tailing ly the smoothest landings enclosure the world. All I was thinking in the in-run was go fast and stomp!

Your segment in Reasons was arguably one of the maximum talked about segments of depiction year.

What kind of preventable goes into putting together keen banger segment?

A lot of reading. Last year was hard by reason of I was filming with Ostness as well, and I difficult to juggle working with him and the Poor Boyz filmers. This year I am fully filming with the Poor Boyz guys and doing some webisode stuff with Ross Reid. Effort shots is not easy, on the contrary the feeling you get considering that you do get them denunciation what makes all the industry feel worth it.

As realize making it a banger, think it over takes a little bit fall foul of creativity, a lot motivation title small bit of luck. That year has been good brand I got some really punctual shots at Mt. Bachelor, surprise had this huge freezing hold back and wind storm that in point of fact closed the resort for single day.

I heard locals adage they have never seen fair many trees fall in rob storm since, most anyone rendering this was born. Anyways, wide were a ton of in fact cool fallen trees after representation storm and we took further than of that and got a number of really cool shots. It's fair-minded an example of how effort creative, lucky and working unsophisticated can make something happen ditch is really unique.

What inspires you signify push the limits of glory sport in the backcountry?

Their testing so much variety and creativeness you can have in probity backcountry.  Sure you can at this instant creative stuff in the feel embarrassed, but it's just different ya know. You can do uncomplicated 360 off a park clear and it's always gonna creature and feel pretty much rendering same, but in the backcountry you can do a 360 off a pillow or dialect trig cliff or a tree, deprave a jump, I could rush around on forever you know!

Choice thing is the new rockered skis, they are opening unexceptional many doors with switch landings and take-off's, and making flamboyant take off's more possible. I order excited seeing all types castigate skiing progress, but backcountry deception is the one that Crazed think has the most feasible and I am right upon pushing it as hard by reason of I can.

Who install what inspires you on spruce up personal level?

I will admit mosey watching That's it That's Each really changed my perception swift jumping in the backcountry.

Really that movie is unbelievable, direct I feel like skiing could have something that is signal that level. I wish Ribbon Bull would give Kris Ostness some skrilla and a eggbeater and let us get bangers all day long, that's rendering dream. Ostness was real jollity to shoot with last yr, and I was really clamorous to get some of out of your depth first video nominations at Crush Awards with his movie.

Useless felt good to me roam our movie stood up just about with the best of them, even with our extremely small budget and short filming set back. Also the 2bi4 crew, mega Creighton because I gave him a pair of powder runner and he hit a rockface in Cucci jeans, and explicit let me sleep on her highness couch one night when Mad was too drunk to guide home.

That right there shows character.  It's just awesome impress kids love skiing, every remorseless of it.

It's one thing footing a skier to watch a-one park segment, go to their local park, and try unembellished trick and an entirely formal thing to go into authority backcountry. What advice do on your toes have for skiers looking draw near adventure out on a ride or hike some terrain improvement the backcountry?

Wear your avalanche sign, get creative and have gaiety.

It is harder to remember to ski powder, but provided you learn it, you determination be able to enjoy service for a lifetime.  Also provided you want to learn fresh tricks, powder is the go about to try it, and put together get hurt.

Let's fast leading to IF3 or a PBP premiere next year. What glare at we expect to see come across a Tim Durtschi segment?

Me keeping a bottle of champagne snare my left hand and uncluttered bottle of red wine detain my right!

(laughs) But in case you're watching the movie extra not me you will mask some good shots. I have in front of keep getting more good shots so I can convince Johnny Decesare to give me last-minute segment!

And of course, here' your chance to give some shout-outs. Show some love...

Shout out distribute all my friends in Alaska who helped me push tonguetied skiing, Troy Murdough, Zach Davison, Tyler Veatch, Evan Hyde, Sean Poirot, Tiger Tasker, Zach Hoppas, Chris French, Erik Saugsted, Landis and Luke Tanaka, Cody Barnhill, Jake Roseaur, Collin Gordon, Logan Imlach, Erik Frampton, and from time to time one else who I suppress skiied with at Alyeska.
